Food Truck TUESDAYS

Remember that wonderful feeling you got in elementary school when you reached a new level of reading or mastered a new skill?  We want to be sure that the children in the Allendale-Fairfax Schools get that same warm feeling and maybe a little prize! The Allendale-Fairfax Education Foundation is increasing its tutoring effort and we are going to help!

How you ask? Simple- it is all about the TIPS! Tips received during each of the 4 Tuesdays when a different food truck arrives on Pickens St and sells delicious  food (between 12 and 2)  will be donated to help the Foundation buy incentives for the kids.

Venezuelan arepas, tacos, burgers and salads- each week a different truck with a different cuisine.  Make plans to ignore that lunch bag on Tuesdays in September!

Welcome Class of 2022

Looking forward to explaining the many benefits of being involved with the Pro Bono Program on Thursday, August 15th at 2:15.  I love presenting this speech to the new students.

Hopefully they will enjoy the Pro Bono Program Movie, 2019 showing in the Perrin Lobby during lunch on Thursday. A visual reminder of how important Pro Bono if the profession and to law school experience.

New semester, New Pro Bono Opportunity

The Pro Bono Program has agreed to work with the national organization, Root and Rebound.  They work to address the barriers faced by those who have been incarcerated. Communities can help as can policies that promote self-sufficiency.  Students will initially be working on research and drafting of a resource library. Other activities include research on policy changes and participation in public information sessions. This is not a program for everyone. Plan on talking with the Pro Bono Program if you are at all interested not only helping this population but also reentry issues.

A full job description and expectations is located on the Pro Bono Program Website

September will be here soon…

and not only does that mean football, and school but also the once a year 11th Circuit Juvenile Arbitration Program training.  Being an arbitrator for juvenile cases is a special skill that requires training but also a serious desire to help solve problems.  It can be frustrating ( welcome to the world of working with kids!) but also a great opportunity to work within the criminal justice system.  The mandatory training is conducted every Tuesday and Thursday in September from 6-9. There is also an application. Once training is completed you decide when you can take a case and when you are overwhelmed. The individual cases do not take long and we help make it easier for you by having the case file delivered to the Pro Bono Program office.

This project has been a part of the Pro Bono Program for 30 years and although only a small number of students get to engage, the impact is huge! Any number of Assistant Solicitors started their careers with Juvenile Arbitration and have spread this idea of restorative justice across the state and beyond.

You can become a part of this elite team but you must contact the Pro Bono Program ASAP. We are only allocated 3 volunteer slots for this year. Only the truly interested should apply. This is not just a resume builder but a true volunteer experience.
